OK, I’m going to try something new today.
In the past, I’ve published “Nail The Shot” videos with eight photos and covered the field techniques for each. I really like this kind of video because it demonstrates the practical application rather than just theory. However, I think the old format was too long, often pushing 30 minutes.
So, I’m taking a different approach and hope you’ll give me your feedback in the comments under the video. Instead of cramming eight shots into a video with explanations for each, I’m only doing one photo in a short-form style video that I think will prove more enjoyable to watch.
So, check out my first attempt at the link below. Just seven minutes and packed with info.
.
PS – If you enjoyed this post, I think you’ll REALLY like my e-books and video workshops! Thousands of pages and hours of videos filled with tips, tricks, and techniques – all my best content! Check ’em out – click here (hey, it’s free to look).
I Love the new shorter format!
Thank you. Like the tips. Am a big fan.
Excellent format straight to the subject which is Very well explained.
Hi Steve, I love your tutorials. One thing I am missing though is the impact of digital post-processing via Photoshop et al. So for me it would be very helpful to see not only the end result but also the version straight from the camera.
I like the new format. Informative but brief.
Steve, this short video format is very effective, and I believe you’ll get even more views!
Definitely like the short format one photo idea. I rarely make time to watch longer videos but a few minutes provides a welcome break when going through emails.
Really appreciated the video. Timing seemed good as it left me wanting a little more rather than sneaking out the back door.
The one image video is much better. Easier to follow and remember to remember the tips.
focusing on one image with the details on how you did that is really helpful
Excellent !
I really enjoyed the format, and as usual very informative !
Keep up the great work Steve
I enjoyed the video and focusing on one image with more detail is fine. I think a compromise between 8 and 1 would be 2. That way you could talk about two different techniques in capturing the image instead of just one. I did learn a lot about your technique of subject detection so thanks so much for that. I am looking forward to your Z9 setup guide.
Thanks for the very informative video. I like short and to the point! I know this reddish egret! I visit Fort DeSoto often and usually see it there. I nicknamed it Big Red! I have a lot of photographs of it. Your tips are very welcoming! I can’t wait to go back to apply them.
Steve, Excellent video! I loved the format. Several points that you mentioned, I’ve read or heard from you before. However, it really helps to be reminded of how important the techniques and tips you teach are with another outstanding photo. I’m looking forward to the Z-9 set-up guide as well as future videos on how you got the shot.
Enjoyed the format … always learn from your videos. Thanks a lot.
Thank you! Love the short, sweet, and to the point. Keep it up!
This way seems to me like you are able to give more details about the image, leave it like this, loved it.
Loved this format! I always learn something from you! This is the one bird in the Heron family that I have yet to see! Your shot is amazing! Such a beautiful bird.
New format is a winner. Look forward to the next one.
Excellent format and tips – thank you!
Thanks Steve, like the new format and looking forward to seeing more.
Loved the video, very helpful – look forward to more! Sorry to hear about your mum. All the best, Alan Wilkinson
Hi Steve. The video was excellent, consistent with all of your videos/books. The content you provide is alway clear and informative. I do like the short format but I will watch anything you provide. Very sorry to hear about your mom. Take care.
Thanks Steve, I love this short format and your -always- relevant information and comments. Yannick (from France)
I like this short version (also love the longer) since with my busy schedule, I really appreciate the pearls of wisdom in a time frame easy to squeeze into my day. AND I can’t wait for your Z9 set up guide. I have mine humming along pretty well, but like other bodies, I always find something that is better in your guides! Manual focus in the general area has been a life saver for subjects the Z9 does not want to grab, thanks for that. BTW, I sold a poop load of my equipment (and 2 old fiddles), and ordered… Read more »
Steve I enjoyed the shorter format but also enjoyed the longer format also.
I usually watch your videos on your site but was annoyed when the video came up and was blocked by a grey box. I can only assume this is something utube did to force me to watch on their site because the video worked fine there. Sorry about your mom. I still miss mine.
I liked the shorter format, it makes it easier to grab the video just before bed instead of waiting, sometimes for days, and maybe never getting to play the video before the next one goes on the waiting list.
I like this shorter format. All of the relevant details plus some very useful tips.
Excellent video Steve. Sorry to hear about your mom – prayers!
Really like this format. Found it very helpful. I have taken shots of a reddish egret at Sanibel Island. I fear he may have washed away with Hurricane Ian.
Love the shorter, Nail The Shot. May be nice to shoot a frame at eye level & kneeing to show how the lower shot improves the image.
Love thr formet, love thr pics, and admire your work
Outstanding presentation. Even though I don’t use a D9, YET, a lot of this stuff can be pertinent to the D850 and my approach to like subjects.
Thank you
My condolences.
Love the new format, makes it easy to put the info into practice.
Steve,
I’m sorry to hear about your mother passing on.
Thanks as always for the videos and other excellent material that you publish on your website.
I really like your new “one shot” approach to your “Nail The Shot” series. For me the focus on a single shot really drives home the points that you cover.
By the way, what frame rate were you using on the Z9 in this instance?
Thanks for the kind words. It was 20 FPS
Thanks, Steve.
So sorry of your loss. Really enjoyed the shorter version. Fort DeSoto is one of my favorite locations. Thank you!
Thanks so much.
Steve,
Great format which helps simplify the process and your steps to getting one shot. The others were good but with some many different shots its was a bit difficult to keep the information organized for each one.
I like this format ,it is straight to the point .
Thnak you for the video. Short and to the point, nicely done! I’m new to bird photos.I shoot with D850. Looking forward to making some mistakes.
I think this short format is great. I keep almost all your videos in a separate folder so it’s easy to find them to review at a later date when needed.
Length is perfect with good, succinct info shared. You could do these as chapters of a group that covers a subject more broadly.
Excellent format and beautiful shots
Really like the short version, Steve. I was able to watch while dinner is cooking. Looking forward to more of your very insightful videos. Thank you.
Steve, I am so sorry about the passing of your mom. She raised you well and you honor her by helping others do better in what they love. Hugs and Peace.
Thank you.
Perhaps in one your upcoming short videos show how to use a mono pod with cable and camera attached taking advantage of the flip screen. I saw this technique used while in Africa where one is NOT allowed to leave the vehicle. With lions close, the above technique, similar to what you described in your short video, used. The monopod with camera/flip screen deployed was lowered outside of the vehicle. The cable was used to operate the camera while inside the vehicle with excellent results and no photographers eaten. Stay frosty Steve, and as always thank you for always wearing… Read more »
I almost took along a monopod to do that last time I was in Africa, but I was running workshops and I don’t usually have time to play. Plus, if I did it, everyone would want to do it and I wound’t be able to really test it out.
Wow, you are a fast talker. The presentation was well organized. I will replay your video to understand the proceedure.
I know, I gotta slow down a bit 🙂 I get too excited.
I like the shorter format. I think the eye contact and 1 image allows for better concentration on both the spoken info and visual info. 5 by 5, brother
Great info and format.
Great capture and I do like the short video format… to the point!
I believe that good presentations should generally follow the 5-B’s of Baptist Preaching…..
“Be-Brief-Brother-Be-Brief”
LOL, yup, I think so too!
I also like the shorter format. Still a ton of useful info to absorb. Really inspiring, like all of your work.
